The loss of a child is devastating. Nothing can prepare you or your family, and knowing where to find help is important.

How we can support you

Our bereavement midwives can support you and your family after a stillbirth or the death of a newborn baby. We offer compassionate and culturally safe care during your time of grief and loss.

We can help with:

  • support for your emotional, social and physical wellbeing
  • practical guidance in the time that follows your loss – for example, with funeral arrangements
  • updates about investigations following a loss, such as an autopsy
  • support at follow up appointments with the hospital.

Pregnancy after loss clinics

The MCAL (midwifery care after loss) clinic can support you during a pregnancy following loss.

Our midwives can:

  • see you earlier on in your pregnancy
  • see you more often to check the health of you and your baby
  • offer you longer appointments to support your emotional wellbeing
  • work with your obstetrician to make your pregnancy care plan.

You can ask your GP for a referral to attend this clinic.
