Communicable diseases

Communicable diseases spread from person to person. While most of these diseases are mild and last only a few days, some can become much more serious.

We can help schools, child care centres, residential aged care facilities and other organisations with:

  • advice on how to stop diseases spreading
  • what to do if there is an outbreak
  • finding and contacting anyone who may have been in contact with an infected person.

Find the list of conditions which you must tell us about on the Queensland Health website.

Health risks

We manage environmental risks that could cause illness or injury, including:

  • food and water
  • mosquitoes, insects and other pests
  • natural disasters
  • pollution
  • harmful substances
  • chemicals and radiation.

Contact us for advice on environmental health hazards, safety laws and licensing. We can also help with risk assessments.

To make a food safety complaint go to the Queensland Government website.
