Our 2 year graduate program in mental health is for newly qualified:

  • occupational therapists
  • psychologists
  • social workers.

We’ll support you as you transition from study to professional practice. You'll learn through a mix of classroom and work-based experiences with other graduates, including:

  • tutorials and practical learning sessions
  • interdisciplinary training days
  • discipline-specific supervision
  • journal clubs.

You'll do 4 rotations in a range of settings and locations. These could include:

  • Acute Care Team - Ipswich Hospital
  • Acute Mental Health Unit - Ipswich Hospital
  • Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (AODs) - Ipswich Health Plaza
  • Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) - Ipswich Health Plaza and Goodna Community Health Centre
  • EVOLVE Therapeutic Service - Ipswich Health Plaza
  • Gailes Community Care Unit - Gailes
  • Goodna Community Care Team - Goodna Community Health
  • Ipswich and Rural Community Care Team - Ipswich Health Plaza
  • Older Person’s Mental Health Service - Ipswich Hospital
  • The Park - Centre for Mental Health, Treatment, Research and Education

How to apply

We run the allied health graduate program every second year.

Applications open in August and September and the course begins the following February. The next course is due to start in February 2025.

Check the graduate portal for application dates and make sure you apply before the closing date.

You'll need to include your:

  • resume with all of your clinical placements and a cover letter
  • graduate summary and academic transcript.

Who can apply?

Our program is for graduate:

  • psychologists
  • social workers
  • occupational therapists.

You must also:

  • have completed your degree in the past 2 years or due to complete it by February 2025
  • have the right to live and work in Australia
  • be committed to working in West Moreton health services for the 2 year program.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A position in the program is reserved for a candidate who identifies as indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
