We’re looking for seven young people aged 15 to 25 to join West Moreton Health’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC).
We know that young people experience healthcare differently, and we want to make sure your voice is heard.
As a YAC member, you'll share your experiences and ideas to help improve the way healthcare is delivered for young people across our region.
What a youth advisory council does
The YAC is a group of young people who work directly with clinical and non-clinical staff and leaders across West Moreton Health to:
- provide advice on key health issues affecting young people in our region
- make sure young people’s voices are heard in healthcare decisions
- help improve health services by sharing ideas and feedback
- work on optional projects that impact youth health and wellbeing.
It’s also a great opportunity to:
- make a real difference in shaping healthcare for young people
- meet like-minded young people and build your networks
- develop leadership skills and gain experience in decision-making
- work alongside health professionals, project managers, and other experts
- have your voice heard and represent young people in your community.
What’s involved:
As a YAC member, you will:
- attend a meeting every two months (dates set in advance)
- share your ideas and experiences to help improve health services
- work with healthcare leaders to tackle key health issues
- take part in optional activities, like community projects, media opportunities, and youth events.
Meetings will be held in-person and online (location decided by the group). Between meetings, members can stay connected through a private Microsoft Teams chat.
From time to time, senior health leaders or Board members will attend meetings to listen to your feedback and discuss what's next for youth healthcare in our region.
Who can join:
We’re looking for young people aged 15 to 25 from all backgrounds who:
- live in or have a strong connection to the West Moreton Health region (Ipswich, Esk, Boonah, and surrounding areas)
- have experience with healthcare, either as a patient, carer, or support person (preferred but not required)
- care about health and wellbeing and want to make a difference
- are connected with other young people through school, sports, social groups, or online (helpful but not essential)
- can attend meetings and share their perspectives.
We want the YAC to reflect the diverse experiences of young people in our community, including those with lived experience of youth detention.
If you are under 18, you will need parent or guardian consent to join.
Payment
Council members receive $80 per meeting ($40 per hour) to cover attendance, discussions between meetings, and transport costs.
