Our commitment statement

We support your right to ask for information from our hospital and health service, unless it's in the public's best interest to keep it private.

What is Right to Information

The Right to Information (RTI) process is the Queensland Government's way of giving the community greater access to information.

Two pieces of legislation define this process.

The RTI and IP Acts help ensure that:

  • our community has access to our information
  • we protect people’s privacy.

Read more about the RTI process on the Right to Information website.

Body worn cameras (BWCs)

Our Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) wear Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) when they visit tobacco retailers, vape stores, and other places that supply or make smoking products or personal vaporisers.

BWCs are used to make sure that these places and the people who go there follow the rules in the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act (TOSPA) and Medicines and Poisons Act (MPA).

BWCs record both video and audio. The record function can be turned off. The EHOs will tell the people they talk to when they record the interaction.

Accessing health records

Your health records belong to the hospital or health centre that has them, but you can look at them or get a copy.

Before applying under the IP Act, check if your personal information is available through our Admin Access scheme. Contact our Release of Information Unit on 07 3497 3580.

Right to Information process

Before you apply, check if the information is already on one of these Queensland Health websites.

If you can’t find the information you're looking for, contact our Information Access Unit:

We can help you update your personal information, and:

  • directing you to information that's already available
  • giving you copies of information that's already public.

Making a formal request

You can make a formal RTI request by either:

If you're using the PDF form, email or post it to the hospital your request is about.

You'll need to pay an application fee and there may be other costs. We’ll let you know the cost when we get your application. Learn more about fees and charges on the Right to Information website.

After you make a request

We'll contact you if we can give you the information or need to discuss your application.

If you’re unhappy with our decision, you can apply to have it reviewed. You need to do this within 20 business days from the date on the letter telling you about our decision.

You can also ask the Information Commissioner to review our decision.
